Setting up Yoast SEO plugin in WordPress is easy peasy. Take the following step-by-step guide below and you’ll be setting your site up for success not only for search engines, a variety of social media sites like Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter.

Installing the Yoast SEO Plugin

First step is to install the plugin on your WordPress site.

  1. Go to your WordPress Admin Console
  2. Click on Plugins, then Add New

  3. In the search box, type Yoast SEO, then hit the Enter Key
  4. Yoast SEO will be the first option.
  5. Click the Install button
  6. Once the plugin has downloaded and installed on your site, last step is to click the Activate button.
  7. Once the plugin is activated, you’re ready to start providing enriched details for search engines and social media sites.

Setting Up the Yoast SEO Plugin

Next step is to setup the plugin and there’s a wizard to do that!

At some point after installation, a message at the top of the page after installation, on the dashboard page, or even within the Yoast SEO menu item (named “SEO”), will give you the option to setup Yoast SEO through a wizard.  Just step through the wizard and they will setup the plugin for you.  This wizard will setup what type of site you have, what type of content you want to provide search engines, what social media urls are associated with the website, and more. An option to help setup a Google Search account and link that account to this site is available.

Not everything will be setup with this wizard.  Features like enabling RIch Pins with Pinterest, provide specific details for Facebook and Twitter, and more.

Setting up Social Media options

To enable Facebook and other social media to display helpful titles, descriptions, and images:

  1. Go to your WordPress Admin Console
  2. Click on SEO menu item, and then Social submenu item
  3. Under the Facebook tab, there’s a toggle. Set it to Enable.

Pinterest requires a blog post all it’s own and will be coming soon!
